MyCRC is a compact utility that allows you to quickly check the integrity of any file. It supports MD2, MD4, MD5 and SHA1. The program does not require installation and can be used from a USB flash drive. However, unlike file explorers, MyCRC does not show the.wav,.mp3,.zip,.jpg or.dex files in question.
MyCRC also restricts you to working with local files. No network-based support is provided. On the other hand, it does not require root access on the computer.
Installation and Usage
In order to use MyCRC on your machine, you first need to download and place the binary file (that has to be kept on the USB drive) on your Mac’s desktop.
Then, you simply need to type the path to the executable file. This is the program’s default application name, so you should have no trouble typing it on the command line.
You can use the following parameters to modify MyCRC’s behavior:
-b Byte: allows you to specify an offset in the file
-h Help: displays a help dialog
-h N: allows you to specify a number of parameters (even multiple digits)
-l Level: sets the detailed output to L or S
-m Mode: specifies the checksum algorithm to work with
-n Number: allows you to specify a file name
-o Offset: sets an offset for the file in bytes
-p Percentage: instructs the app to show or hide the progress bar in the event of a long operation
-r Return: starts the application, prompting you to select a file
-s Save: sends the checksum result to a specified file
-t Type: instructs the app to show or hide a progress window
-t N: allows you to specify a checksum type
-v Verbose: shows extra information to the console
-v N: indicates how much progress information to be shown
When the app asks for a checksum, press Enter to proceed or Ctrl+C to exit. This is because, in order to run the app, the standard input must be connected to a file.
Each file that is being scanned will be shown with a.inspect file extension. In other words, the file listed in the app will be preceded by the file’s checksum.
To extract the checksum of a given file, you can always press Ctrl+C
